Sometimes the simplest approach can be the most profound. I was reminded of this in the kitchen with Chef Frank Costantino making pasta for a story called “One Simple Thing”. In the right hands, fresh ingredients, a few simple steps and “the possibilities are endless”. I think the same holds true in Photography, sometimes the simplest touch in lighting or a visual concept can make all the difference.

I spent an afternoon hiking and exploring the trails at Flat Rock Brook Nature Center last week with a group of young photography students, The Girl Scouts. I’m familiar with their good works and of course, the annual cookie fundraiser, but our time together was a step towards earning a new badge! It was a day of story telling and creative problem solving, and how to see things in a different way, behind the camera. We had a wonderful fall setting, with many natural elements, and great level of enthusiasm. Great to see the scouts trying out different, daring perspectives and camera angles!

Printed materials of every shape and texture arrived this week - flat & shiny, round & matte, square & sparkly, all bursting with color – shot during photo shoot for print promotions in NYC. We worked on showing the different sides and angles of each item, to highlight its features with an active, interesting position. We shot on a simple black background, which made things feel dramatic.

The 42nd Annual NJ Advertising Club Awards Ceremony was held last week, it was an exciting night overlooking the Hudson River and a skyline at dusk. The evening started with a cocktail hour, where many talented professionals showed masterful work.
I got share the energy of watching friends, old and new, compete and win in the many categories of the competition.
We took the first place award for best Black and White Photography and followed with two second place awards, in different categories, amazing! It really was an honor to be a part of the event and share the night with so many accomplished agencies and industry professionals!
We ended the night with a cut of cheesecake, (a fav).

Just a misplaced step off a curb while running, bad sprain. Elevate, ice and wear an aircast, back to jogging in six to eight weeks, I hope. I felt lucky it was not broken it sure looked and felt it. (I still managed to keep a shooting schedule, slowly, with a lot of help).

The American philosopher John Dewey said, “Education is not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” I recently photographed a number of Students, Faculty, and Administrators from Monroe College, in New York. Each had an amazing and dynamic story, and while they came from all parts of the globe, all shared the dream of pursuing and offering a world-class education.
On set is Dean Frank Costantino, School of Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts with Criminal Justice Dean Michelle Rodney.
I visited the Culinary Arts School, It's right out of top chef, New York at it's best!
